Lighthouse at Port Phillip (as consultant to Lovell Chen, Melbourne)
The initial brief was to include a ‘loo with a view’ on the operations level of a 1902 working lighthouse which overlooked the beach. Given that was sadly impractical, a new bathroom with shower was designed on the ground level for operators – with a new reception area and facilities for visitors. On the upper level, a new office, the design of which considered acoustics/day & night reflectivity/practicalities of multi communications equipment; a new kitchen and a new dining/meeting room was designed – all within an accelerated timescale to minimise disruption to operations.
